Hydeaway Bay Day Trip
Hydeaway Bay makes a perfect day trip from Airlie. It’s around a 45 minute drive north of Airlie on the Whitsunday coast. The beach at Hydeaway Bay is a lovely sandy beach over 1.5 kilometres long with endless views across the water to Gloucester Island, Saddleback Island and many more. The beach is fringed with shady trees and the rocks at the end make for excellent exploring. The fishing from the beach can be quite successful but there is a boat ramp at Dingo Beach, just around the other side of the headland, if you’d like to try your luck offshore.
There is a pub at Dingo Beach and two beachside restaurants at Cape Gloucester: Montes and The Oar just at the northern end of Hydeaway Bay.
Montes Beach Front Restaurant
What could be better than sharing a seafood platter and glass of bubbly as you take in a perfect Whitsundays sunset? At Montes Reef Resort, you can enjoy this and so much more. The fully-licensed alfresco restaurant and bar at our resort is located right on the beach. Both lunch and dinner menus feature a mouthwatering array of options to suit all tastes and appetites.

Cape Gloucester Bar
Any visit to Cape Gloucester Resort isn’t complete until you’ve enjoyed a couple of quiet drinks at the fabulous open-air bar. The bar is adjacent to the 25 metre salt water resort pool, where you can watch the kids play. You will be tempted by the selection of beers, spirits or select from our cocktail menu; or simply enjoy a coffee. Enjoy your refreshments while also taking in the sea views.
Day visitors are welcome at the resort, which is accessible by car. You will think that you are at an island resort, as their westerly aspect and absolute beach front looks over Edgecombe Bay towards Bowen and the mountain ranges beyond.
No visit is complete without a walk on the beach with most guests staying on to capture the sun as it sets over the water.
Bar Hours: 10 AM to late
